What is Occupational therapy (Ot)?
In brief, occupation is always be related to meaningful or purposeful activity, function and independent living skills. At the same time, it is also defined as "all roles for all people". For instance, each person has their own other roles besides her job. A secretary with a hand injury may also be:

OT in Mental Health
Today, OT work in both hospitals and community-based programs to help people with mental illness as to improve their lives. Children, adolescents, adults and the elderly are having variety of mental health needs. OT may work with people diagnosed with borderline personality, chemical dependencies, adjustment disorders, anxiety and stress disorders.
A few examples of OT treatment include:
OT in Physical Rehabilitation
A large number of occupational therapists work in physical management. Generally, we are commonly dealing with persons with stroke, head injury, work injuries and heart failure. Other than that, a few other diagnostic categories may include multiple sclerosis, arthritis, burns, amputation, hip fractures and hand injuries.
Examples of treatment to be given to these clients are:
OT in Paediatrics
Occupational therapists find meaningful activities to aid children in developing they may need to succeed in school and home life. We may also treat premature babies like teaching them to improve their sucking ability. Plus, we also help adolescents to do adjustment as to get into performing adult roles.

Ot make use of goal-oriented activities as to treat people impaired by normal aging, accident or illness. As we know, many elderly are now actively participating in wellness programs. The function and independence has becoming the the main focus when working with the older adult. OT may also get involved in the adult day care programs, retirement programs, hopices and senior centers.
The specific treatments to be given to the elderly are:

- practicing handwriting with a kindergarten girl who has visual problems
- wheelchair positioning for a second grader with spina bifida
- developing behavioral contract with a preteen who acts out in class
